My wife, Sheri, and I visited a craft show years ago in the mountains of Tennessee. Sheri saw all sorts of items she wanted, but riding on the budget of a teacher and deputy, we couldn’t afford to buy all the beautiful art she had her heart set on.
I grew up working with tools and learned to be resourceful and crafty where needed, so I came home and tried to replicate the crafts Sheri had seen and wanted at the show. The first craft I ever made was a heart shadow box shelf that Sheri fell in love with. That one box initiated years of heading out to my workshop to try and make whatever Sheri drew or described for me.
Friends saw I had made and asked for pieces of their own. Friends of friends wanted larger items, like tables, cabinets and other furniture. Word of mouth requests kept my workshop busy, even as a full-time Sheriff’s Deputy.
Now retired, I fill my days in the workshop creating and carving custom orders and other wood projects. When I’m not in the workshop or at a show, I’m spending time with my wife and pup, Aurora, or with my two kids and their families.
